Zusammenfassung
The Trek Stache is a cross-country hardtail with 29+ tires that deliver incredible traction and a smooth ride over rough terrain. Its geometry is playful and agile, making it fun and confidence-inspiring on the trail. However, it can be expensive and the tires are prone to damage in rocky conditions.
Huge amounts of traction from 29+ tires
Playful and agile geometry
Versatile with adjustable chainstays and wheel options
Expensive frame and components
Tyres are easily damaged in rocky terrain
No dropper post on some builds
The result is a similar ground smoothing low pressure footprint to a 27.5in plus-tyre, but amplified in terms of bump shrinking speed sustained by the shallower contact angle of the 29in diameter
The Stache’s strengths include insane levels of traction and a geometry aimed at being able to throw those big hoops around at will.
It’s no buzz kill, though, and the safety net of the Velcro-like traction means you can chuck the Stache around the trail with reckless abandon, and this makes it seriously good fun to ride.

Trek has committed hard to the 29+ wheelsize with the Stache 9.8 - a carbon fibre trail hardtail built around 29x3.0in tyres and a 120mm travel fork

A few changes have altered Andrew's impression of the task so dramatically that a new review was in order...
Upgradeable frame
Improved performance with fork upgrade
Fast descending hardtail
Smooth suspension with Mattoc Pro
Good climbing traction with long rear center
Faultless 11spd SRAM GX drivetrain
Forgiving ride due to frame and 3" rear tire
Stock Chupacabra tires are weak for aggressive riding
SRAM Level brakes feel under-gunned
Seat stays occasionally bite
Would prefer straighter seat tube on custom frame

Dabei […]

As we’ve learned over the past few weeks, however, first impressions aren’t everything, but we certainly have done a lot of laughing whilst riding this thing, it’s a whole lot of fun! Ahead of our review, here is a little preview of this very unique bike. Oh, and does anyone know what a Chupacabra actually …
Huge amounts of traction from the 29+ tyres.
Stranglehold dropout allows for 29+, 29" or 27.5+ wheels.
Geometry is fun and lively.
Manitou fork axle is very fiddly.
No dropper post.

Call it what you want — tweeners, plus size, midfat, skinny fat — plus size bikes are here and the industry is latching on, for better or for worse. By mid-summer 2016, you can expect to see a 27.5+ bike in the wheelhouse of every major bike brand. However, 29.5+ is far less common, with Trek Bikes being one of the only major brands to adopt these extra tall, extra wide crawlers.
