Zusammenfassung

The Kona Process 153 is a versatile enduro bike praised for its updated suspension kinematics, flip chip for geometry adjustment, and improved usability features like better bottle cage placement. It handles steep descents and pedals efficiently, though some reviews note limitations in technical climbs and stability at high speeds. The bike is compared favorably to its siblings and stands out for its all-around performance.

Pros
  • Updated suspension kinematics work well with air or coil shocks

  • Flip chip allows geometry adjustment for 29er or 27.5" wheels

  • Better bottle cage placement and tool mounting points

  • Handled steep, chunky descending and bigger pedaling missions well

  • Pedaled and climbed well despite 153mm of rear travel

Cons
  • Single pivot seemed to get overworked on more technical climbs

  • Lack of stability at higher speeds

  • Some pedal feedback at higher speeds

  • Underpowered and underwhelming SRAM G2 brakes

  • SRAM Reverb hydraulic dropper post developed squish when fully extended

Key Quotes
The Kona Process has been their go-big-or-go-home play bike since 2014, topping out with a very long-travel for park, DH, and enduro racing, but mostly living in the big trail bike world of s#!t eating grins.

Climbing ability combined with descending prowess makes the Process 153 a standout all-arounder for those who don’t mind pedaling, but still want to get rowdy on descents.

Kona has managed to create a bike that’s versatile enough for the demands of modern all-mountain without losing its iconic character.

2024 Kona Process 153 CR DL Gen. 3 Review

Dez. 2024

The Supreme Council might have a tough time putting a stamp on the Gen. 3 Process 153. In some ways it handles like an enduro bike, stomping big lines and landing softly, but it's not too much for lower angle trails or janky business thanks to its modest length and sensible geometry. Based on my experience on really rough and fast stuff, it may not be suited to everyone looking for an enduro beast, but that's the only situation where it wasn't up to the task. It's great in the air, beastly in corners and it devours flow trails, even technical ones with quick left to right switches and surprises to keep you on your toes.

Höhen
  • Solid feeling build with no rattles

  • Very quiet on the trail

  • Versatile geometry feels at home in many situations

  • Pedals well with minimal bob without climb switch engaged

  • Good suspension performance

  • Roomy standover accommodates riders of different sizes

  • Corners beautifully

  • Handles big hits like it has more than 153mm of travel

Tiefs
  • SRAM G2 brakes are suitable for trail bike territory but out-gunned on more challenging lines

  • Effective seat angle looks good on paper but taller riders may find themselves too far behind the bottom bracket

  • Chunk or repeated heavy impacts with speed are not the P153s strength

  • Stack a little low, preferred with a 50mm riser bar

  • Rockshox Reverb Stealth seat post limited to 200mm, overly complicated, requires more insertion length

Kona Process 153 DL 29 Review: Mellow Yellow

Juli 2022 · James Vincent

The latest Kona Process 153 rolls on 29in wheels and sits in the middle of the Process range; Process X on one side, Process 134 on the other.

Höhen
  • The geometry. Like all Konas it’s sorted

  • The rear suspension

  • That yellow

Tiefs
  • Average brakes

  • And fork

  • Heavy for what it is

All metal, all good, all the fun.

Höhen
  • Updated geometry

  • Confidence-inspiring on descents

  • Pedals efficiently

  • Snappy through turns

  • Great price point

Tiefs
  • Single-ply tires

  • Not the strongest wheelset

  • Rear brake felt underpowered

Review: 2022 Kona Process 153 DL 29

Feb. 2022 · Henry Quinney

The Process 153's geometry is modern without going to extremes, which adds to its versatility. It's also very yellow.

Höhen
  • Balanced geometry that has an emphasis on trail riding

  • Comfortable climber, especially on more gradual climbs

  • A good frame that would be worthy of future upgrades

Tiefs
  • Shock tune didn’t offer enough support

  • For a bike that isn't an enduro bike, it's not that light

  • Brakes are underpowered for the bike's capabilities

Kona Process 153 DL 29 review

Apr. 2021 · Robin Weaver

Not the sprightliest on mellower trails, but comes alive on steep, chunky stuff. This build doesn’t offer the best value for money, though

Höhen
  • Really comes to life when the going gets steep and rough

  • Great geometry

  • Winning tyre combo

Tiefs
  • Not great value for money

  • Doesn’t feel the most energetic on mellower trails

  • SRAM G2 brakes are okay, but I’d prefer more powerful Codes
