Zusammenfassung

The Kona Satori is a trail bike with radical geometry, featuring a steep seat tube angle that enhances climbing efficiency and a forward riding position. It offers playful handling, capable descending, and good value with durable builds, though some find the suspension setup harsh and the geometry takes adjustment. Overall, it's a versatile bike suited for aggressive cross-country and varied terrain.

Pros
  • Steep seat tube angle improves climbing efficiency and traction

  • Playful and nimble handling with quick cornering

  • Good value for price with solid, durable components

  • Capable descender on moderate to technical trails

  • External cable routing for easy maintenance

Cons
  • Dropper post remote is poorly positioned and inconvenient

  • Suspension can feel harsh, especially on small bumps

  • Steep geometry may feel awkward initially and limit performance on flat terrain

  • Limited upgrade options due to trunnion shock mount

  • Stock components like wheels and brakes may not suit all riders

Key Quotes
The Satori DL is a damn steal as far as I’m concerned.
BIKE Magazine logoBIKE Magazine
It really did it all for me: climbed very well, descended with confidence and had enough travel that I could tackle the full range of my terrain selection in southwestern Colorado.
Mountain Flyer logoMountain Flyer
The Satori doesn't have the mojo that makes the Honzo and Process bikes a special kind of fun. It's all business up and down.
NSMB logoNSMB
The Satori a confusing build that is not so much playful or aggressive cross country as a fundamentally confused soul searching for a home in trail bike territory.
off.road.cc logooff.road.cc
The Satori is untraditional. It's different than almost anything else out at the moment, but it works and can handle a variety of terrain well.

Mountain Flyer
Tested: Kona Satori DL

Dez. 2018

The Satori is a solid bike at its core. The frame is made of 6061 aluminum and sports a single-pivot flex stay design, which means there is no pivot above the axle. Kona calls this its Fuse Independent Suspension, and it’s also used on the Kona Hei Hei models. The rear seat stays flex a little bit. The hydroformed tubing looks bomber, and the welds are big and stout but not easily seen as the bike is just so dang bright. All you see is orange when this thing is between your legs.

Kona Satori // Bike Review

Sept. 2018

Even just a few years ago, the mountain bike industry was on a trend of “bigger is always better.”, Wheel size, travel, geometry… the list goes on. But thankfully, there’s been a recent curb of this shoot-for-the-moon attitude and companies are doing more with less. The reason for this: Not everyone needs—or wants—160mm of travel. Kona has an impressive lineup of bikes, but until this year their 29er offering was noticeably slim. To round out the whole roster, Kona brought back the Satori, a bike last seen in 2014. As a mid-travel (140mm up front, 130mm in back) bike, the Satori’s wheel size, aggressive geometry and suspension are aimed at creating an a do-it-all trail rig. The hiatus has done the Satori well, and with the 2019 model release, it’s pushing the limits of modern geometry. Most noticeably, the seat tube angle—78.3 degrees on a large—is steep. Like, really steep. At 68 degrees, the head tube angle isn’t revolutionary, but it’s nearing the aggressiveness of the Process. Thus, the Satori sits in a unique spot not just in Kona’s lineup, but the mountain bike world itself. Fully capable of climbing anything, big wheel rolling proficiency and a progressive geometry, the Satori is a proven, yet ambitious bike.

Kona Satori DL Review

Mai 2018

Settling in the relatively new category of aggressive cross country, the Kona Satori DL is a mixed bag of parts, geometry and characteristics. On the trail, the Satori is a wannabe; it’s got all the hallmarks of a good trail bike but a harsh suspension set up and steep head angle limits its capabilities to more cross-country pursuits. The best mountain bikes you can buy for under £1,500 Feature: Talking disc brake tech with SRAM The Kona Satori DL is the 29er version of the Hei Hei trail and is a bike the brand says is built for long days in the saddle.
