Cube Reaction Hybrid Performance 500 (2021)

Sep 2021

Cube has a huge range of e-bikes, all using Bosch mid-drive motors. Rather than come out with any radical new designs, the Bavarian-based company usually prefers to evolve its range, taking on new Bosch motors as they come along and opting for incremental improvements on current model designs with the more occasional totally new model design. Cube's current e-bike range takes in everything from full-sus eMTBs through trekking and urban models to 20 inch wheeled compacts, e-cargo models and, for 2022, an e-folder.

Cube Reaction C:62 SL review

Jul 2020 · Tom Marvin

Fast reactions to pedal inputs help on climbs, but the stiff chassis affects descending capability

Highs
  • Instant acceleration

  • Impressive spec, with well-chosen components across the board

Lows
  • Harsh ride chokes descending speed and rough-trail acceleration

  • Tyres are thin and need higher pressures to prevent punctures, adding to the uncompromising ride feel

CUBE Reaction Hybrid Pro 500 Review - Prices, Specs, Videos, Photos

Sep 2018

Price: $3399.00 | Model Year: 2018 Hardtail electric cross country mountain bike with nimble 2.6

Observations
  • Hardtail electric cross country mountain bike with nimble 2.6" plus sized tires, Boost hub spacing and a sturdy 15mm thru-axle on the front wheel, upgraded Alex rims with reinforcement eyelets

  • Only available in high-step, but the frame comes in six sizes and the smaller two offer 27.5" wheel size vs. 29" on the larger four, this scales the bikes appropriately, adds comfort, and optimizes rolling momentum

  • Beautiful motor and battery integration, the Bosch Performance Line CX is tipped up with two thin plastic skid plates and the PowerPack 500 is sunk into the downtube for optimal weight distribution

  • Compact Purion display panel isn't removable, doesn't swivel easily, and the buttons can be inconsistent, the centerdrive motor uses a 2.5x reduction gearing system which introduces some drag when pedaling unassisted or over 32km/h (20mph)

Ugly e-bikes don't cut the mustard any more! As the sophistication of battery and motor technology improves, the next frontier for e-MTBs is to make sure they look good too. Cube are on the money with their new Reaction Hybrid 500 SL, an 'entry level' e-MTB with clean, sleek lines.

Highs
  • Great looks.

  • Excellent Bosch motor/battery.

  • E-MTB mode simplifies the ride.

Lows
  • No dropper post.

  • Tyres aren't tubeless ready.

Cube Reaction TM review

Apr 2018

Cube's Reaction TM is a harder hitting version of their high-value aluminium Reaction hardtail range, pairing a sturdy 130mm fork up front with fat 2.6" tyres on 27.5" wheels. It's cracking value and much more capable in the rough than the rest of the range if you like hacking about in the woods, but there are harder edged weapons out there if you want to go full gonzo.
